headache and migraine

Head Aches

They come in all shapes and sizes. They come for a variety of reasons but come they do and normally when you could least do without one. They say that prevention is cure and in an ideal world we wouldn’t have quite so much stress, money worries, wolfing down quick food and being too busy to really relax. Headaches ,if you listen to them are telling you that something is wrong. The migraine with it’s stabbing head pain, fuzzy eyes and desperate need to lie down in a darkened room may just be the result of that slab of extra mature washed down with the not so small glass of Shiraz. At the time it seemed like a great idea. Not all migraines are a result of this and they are debilitating when the appear. Food and beverages such as cheese, chocolate, wine and coffee are known triggers for migraines but sometimes they are a result of something else going on and it’s always a good idea to get it checked out. Then there’s the tension headache where your head feels all tight and constrained, it can really make you quite miserable and sad. This one normally appears when  stress and stressful situations are on the rise, like your boss being extra bossy or finding out you need to make an elf outfit for tomorrow’s Christmas concert, neither of  which you knew about. Sinus headaches are another nasty version that makes for unpleasant viewing. They  tend to be accompanied by fever and a discoloured nasal discharge, they are often the result of allergies, infection and sometimes nasal polyps.

Obviously the first area to address if you suffer from headaches is your diet. Eat fresh fruit and vegetables, aim to cook most of your meals so you know exactly what’s in it and drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. Take control of stress to the best of your  ability, writing little notes to self can help alleviate brain worry, once it’s written down you know you won’t forget it. Just remember where your notepad is!
